So full confession on this one, I dropped out of Fate/Stay Night. After collecting pictures online from image boards of all the characters and loving the concepts I finally got access to the anime series and was disappointed to find it couldn’t hold my interest. I believe I only watched one or two episodes then just gave up on it. I vaguely remember it was the main character that just kinda turned me off with his lack of personality, but I could be wrong on my original reasoning.

So I stepped into this series with some trepidation, expecting the same results. I am happy to report that I was wrong and this series is much more interesting.

The plot: It’s a bit more complex but it boils down to every 60 years (I think) the holy grail appears to grant one wish and there are 7 mages who are selected to fight for that wish. Each mage finds an artifact and uses it to summon a specific class on warrior: Saber, Archer, Lancer, Rider, Caster, Berserker and Assassin. Each of these servants is some strong historical figure reincarnated for the battle.

And sadly, I think I found my pairing that I’ll be clinging to for a while. Waver is a young student mage who wants to show the world that in spite of the fact that he’s not from a long line of mages he still has power and he wants respect damnit. So he steals one of the relics and summons one of the ‘servants’ from the series: Rider - who in this version is Alexander the Great. Damn me and my weakness for teenage girly looking boys who get paired with big buff men. And Waver is pissy while Alexander the Great has a more jovial side which just reacts so well with him.

The other mages who have shown up are interesting too, but I don’t know quite enough about them yet. I’m really intrigued by Kariya, who is the master of Berserker. There’s some deep family history which caused him to leave his family (his father/grandfather or something is one messed up and creepy insect controlling man) but he comes back to take control of Berserker so he can stop his father (or grandfather? I’m not sure) from torturing a little girl to teach her how to do it. This results in half of his body being terribly scarred and his hair turns white... I’m strange, I want more details on what the hell is going on with that family.

Adding some more on here because I’ve made it through 5 episodes now. So far, I like all the characters I’ve met! None of them are dull and boring and I really want to know what happens to them. Even the kid who summons Caster - Bluebeard - is all creepy and interesting enough for me to like. I could list off so much about them, but heck, I’m better off telling people to GO WATCH THIS SERIES. You don’t need to have seen Fate/Stay Night for it. It’s explained very well and they do a great job of getting you invested in the up coming battle.

And may I say that after five episodes I am in total LOVE with Alexander and Waver. Now excuse me while I go squee like a little fangirl.

Damnit I need me some fic and doujinshi bad!!
